Artist’s Statement:

Ever since I was a young child I have had an interest and desire to build and construct objects. Even when it was ‘art’ time I was in the corner making something more and more complex. I have come to realize that my fascination with construction is expressed through my pursuits in painting. Because of this fascination and my captivation with various visual aspects of the urban environment; my recent work has been centered on creating large-scale urban landscapes. I believe that our environments and surroundings reflect who we are and what we are about as a civilization. I am interested in this reflection within our urban environment-- how we create and evolve within our cities. The idea of 'city' was and is still being formed throughout time. I feel that cities are a direct reflection, a manifestation of our society compressed into an orthogonal grid or abstract linear configuration. My belief is that, from urban conception to decay to gentrification, cities continuously grow and evolve through time, remaining full of life.

> When working, I search for ‘moments’ within the narration of life—moments created by multiple elements coming together to form one concept. These elements are typically structural in nature. I choose variable spaces, which allow me to arrange and rearrange objects to develop compositions that relate to ideas or concepts, as well as the physical structures and abstract qualities of the spaces themselves.
