I have a lot of technical training- an appreciation of the human and animal form from my biology studies, experience in drawing, painting, serigraphy and lithography from my
studio degree and four years of study in illustration at the Ontario College of Art and
Design. As well, I have taught art , worked in advertising, written art related
newsletters and helped create a successful artists' co-operative.
But now, at last, I am a full time artist with no other monikers attached.
I paint realistically in oil and thus consider all my paintings "portraits" - whether of the trees outside my studio, my kitten climbing a table for the first time or my daughter in the waters of Lake Mazinaw.
Some of my work is straight forward - landscapes, lighthouses, etc. But I have always painted them with a purpose -usually to show the uniqueness of the colour and lighting of the day.
But now that I am in my wonderful new studio I am painting larger with the purpose of helping the viewer feel like they too have "been there".
No matter the size of the traditional portrait- I love to create the llusion taht the eyes are alive- and that the "spirit" and intelligence of the sitter can be felt."
