| Otso Motso was established in August 2003, as the vehicle for art and craft by Maaret Sinkko. Maaret has exhibited and her art is in collections in Australia, USA and the UK. | | Statement: "I am exploring different mediums and styles and have learnt that these can transmit emotions as much as, and integral to, the subject. I am interested in the way we respond to natural and built environments, which I try to bring into my work. My recent works still focus heavily on landscapes but this is expanding to mythology, spiritual themes and presently, inexplicably, I am featuring a lot of birds and circles in my work. This is a reflection of my heightened appreciation of how much of our natural environment is lost to urban development as well as my interest in animal welfare and the humane treatment of all creatures.
In my landscapes and urban images I hope to bring a better appreciation of what is old or dirty or not vogue as being in itself something beautiful and melancholy in its decay.
The environment of my work can be real or imagined, created from a true history or folklore." |
